The Beginning
Swollen Pickles was born in 2006. It started out as a sandpit. A place for me to muck around and learn a little old school html.
After a while it evolved into a ‘blog’ cause back in the olden days everyone needed a blog… and a MySpace page.
I wrote about all sorts of random things, movies, weird internet stuff and how to make a little extra cash online. Things took off for a little while and the site saw a decent amount of traffic, then life got in the way, I grew up and I just stopped posting. The site became riddled with bugs and lay dormant for years, before it eventually crashed.
The Resurrection
2020 was a strange time. For some reason I found myself with a fair bit of free time. So on top of the YouTube thing I decided to fire up the old site again, without knowing what I really wanted it to be… and to be honest, I still don’t.
I might occasionally post stuff on here, thoughts, opinions, some lukewarm takes and maybe every now and then I might post something useful.
Just don’t hold your breath.
What’s the name about?
I started using it as a tribute to one of my all time favourite Guitar Effects Pedals, the Way Huge Swollen Pickle. A filthy, girthy fuzz pedal that picked up where the Big Muff left off. The Swollen Pickle was originally made in the 90’s before the company – Way Huge – shut their doors in 1999. Late 90s/early 2000s it was a mythical unicorn type thing for me.
The Way Huge product line was picked up by Dunlop in 2008 and the Swollen Pickle was reissued soon after. There’s some bonus guitar effects trivia for you.
